Story

Hi,

For those of you that had the pleasure of knowing Zoë I'm sure you'll agree with me when I say she was a truly amazing person with endless amounts of energy. She was one of the most caring and thoughtful individuals I have ever known. She was an inspiration to me and I know I've become a more rounded person because of her influence.

Unfortunately for me, her family and friends, we lost Zoe to Ovarian Cancer after a 2 year battle involving multiple operations and constant chemotherapy treatments which, although I'm sure enabled her to live longer, caused her large amounts of mental and physical anguish. She was stage 3c at diagnosis and had only presented with any real symptoms 2 months prior to diagnosis.

She died on July the 17th 2011 at Nightingale House Hospice in Wrexham, UK. My close friend, and one of our best men, Phillip Allen is also running the London Marathon in memory of Zoe for Nightingale House.

If she had only been diagnosed earlier or was more aware of the symptoms to watch out for perhaps she would still be with me today. She was a tough person, always playing down her physical aliments when pressed by doctors as not to cause "too much fuss". We are all guilty of this from time to time but, having been through something similar albeit less serious myself, I think it important that the message goes out to those women, especially the young to ensure they keep things in mind. Whilst I'm sure in the majority of cases things like cancer can be ruled out, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

It was one of her last "instructions" that I run the London Marathon in her memory and I am going to do my very best to make her proud of both my physical achievement and the social awareness I hope it generates. This takes place on the 22nd of April 2012.
Please help me raise money for Target Ovarian as they strive to increase awareness and help drive new research for the early detection and treatment of this silent killer. I always shocked to hear how many people know someone who as contracted this awful disease.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I shall never forget her and always love her. Wish me luck.

God saw the road was getting rough

And the hills were hard to climb.

So he closed your weary eyelids

And whispered, 'Peace be Thine'.

It broke our hearts to lose you

But you didn't go alone,

For part of us went with you.

The day God called you home.
