Motivated by the strength and unfaltering sense of humour of our youngest daughter Poppy, we as a family are committed to support The Lily Foundation and help find a cure for Mitochondrial Disease.

Story

UPDATE: This week I had the opportunity to climb Western Europe's highest summit, Mt Blanc 4,800m, along with 11 other colleagues from Samsung and Blue Square in an attempt to raise £30,000 for The Lily Foundation.

We headed to 3,500m where we familiarised ourselves with crampons, ropes, ice axes and acclimatised to high altitude. Given early starts, sheer rock faces and low oxygen the team did amazingly!

Unfortunately on the 2nd night my body reacted badly to the altitude and I lost consciousness on two occasions. As a safety precaution, my guide did not allow me to attempt the summit bid which was extremely disappointing. However, as an alternative I climbed Gran Paradiso, 4,061m, which is the highest peak solely in Italy and 9 others from our group made it to the top at the same time!

I'd like to thank my amazing team who made the experience so memorable and supported each other no matter what. Also, thank you to those who have donated so far, we are so close to our target! We'd appreciate any further

June this year I'll be embarking on potentially the biggest physical challenge I have ever faced by climbing Mont Blanc along with 11 other colleagues ⛰ Mont Blanc is the highest peak in Western Europe measuring at a whopping 4,810m and requires a level of mountaineering I'm not overly comfortable with (for those who know me I'm terrifed of sheer heights!), not to mention an arduous ascent at high altitude. Only 66% of those who attempt the trek reach the top and there a some pretty major risks that I'm nervous for but am going to overcome for such a good cause.

I'm hoping to raise at least £2,500 (around $5,000NZD) individually with a bigger target of £30k for the group which will go toward the Lily Foundation. I would love it if you would support me and the team to acheive this goal 😊

The Lily Foundation was founded in Lily's memory, havingK lost her battle to Mitochondrial Disease at just eight months old. The charity aims to give hope, answers and support to the many other children and families that face the challenges of this disease today.Did you know every twenty minutes a child is born who will develop Mitochondrial Disease by the age of 16! There is no cure for this disease which is for many, debilitating and life limiting. Please stand with us and fight Mitochondrial Disease and fight for hope.
