Thank you for visiting my Sheffield Half Marathon Just Giving page in support of the Sheffield
Scanner. On 8 April 2018 I’ll be taking part in the Run for All Sheffield Half Marathon as part of the University
of Sheffield team. We’re raising funds for the University’s £2 million campaign to bring an MRI-PET scanning facility to Sheffield, the first of its kind in Yorkshire. More information about the Sheffield Scanner can be found at www.sheffield.ac.uk/sheffieldscanner

Coming from a neuroscience background, it's almost impossible to imagine a time where we weren't able to see what's going on inside someone's brain non-invasively, and improvements in technology have lead to huge advancements in knowledge in the past 20 years alone. The Sheffield Scanner will be invaluable in our quest to understand the brain even more, as well as other parts of the body. Breakthrough's in research will lead to easier and faster diagnosis, characterization, staging and treatment of many diseases, including:

- Alzheimer's disease

- Cancer

- Cardiovascular diseases

- Diabetes

- Infectious diseases

- Lung diseases

- Motor Neurone Disease (MND/ALS)

- Parkinson's disease

- Stroke

I've only ever ran 10km before so this is going to be a massive challenge for me (let alone the fact that the first 5 miles are entirely uphill!), but I am very happy to have joined the University team to raise funds for this fantastic cause! 

We’ll be among thousands of runners who’ll descend on the city’s streets on 8 April. With a city centre start and finish, the Sheffield Half Marathon route will take us out of the city along Ecclesall Road, up Ringinglow Road to the Norfolk Arms in the Peak District National Park, before  flattening out and then descending back into Sheffield towards the finish line back in the city centre. More information about the Sheffield Half Marathon can be found at https://www.runforall.com/events/half-marathon/sheffield-half-marathon/
