Greater Manchester Marathon 2013 · 28 April 2013 ·

We not only save animals from suffering, we also rehabilitate and release them back into the wild, whilst working to protect their habitats. We provide a safe haven for animals that can no longer fend for themselves. In all that we do, we work to find solutions that benefit both animals and people.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Seen as though I am going to put myself through the pain of at least attempting to run the Manchester Marathon (28th April) it seems like a good idea to raise some funds to help a charity which I already support. So dig deep and keep praying that my old creaking knees can manage to hold out for the full 26.2 miles through the south Manchester suburbs.

Having seen firsthand the terrible destruction of rainforests in Borneo and the impact it has on Orang-utans, I decided to act in small way to help support a charity that saves at least some of these wonderful animals.

If you have never seen the destructive activities of legal (and illegal) palm oil plantations then I encourage you to watch the following video showing International Animal Rescue at work to save dispossessed Orang-utans. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_BV7lKV0wM. The footage was shot several months back. This particular charity was highlighted on the Simon Reeves “Indian Ocean” series in 2012. The charity works to rescue not only Orang-utans but other primates such as the Slow Loris form dangerous situations or from illegal captivity. The animals are re-released into areas where they’re still able to roam freely, or in the case of injured or young animals taken back to a rehabilitation area, where they can be made ready for later release. Funds are tight for such small charities so every little helps.
