Swimming the Solent · 21 July 2014

Motor Neurone Disease moves fast. It takes away time, it takes away independence and it has no cure. Every day we support people affected by MND. We fund ground-breaking research. We campaign for better care. We’re here for everyone who needs us. Because with MND, every day matters.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I've never done open water swimming before and its been over 30 years since I trained and swam competitively. I started swimming again in October 2013 and decided to start training for the Solent swim. I've been training properly since January and have completed a 5km endurance swim in 89 minutes in the pool and have been training in Sandown bay since Early April. The Solent swim is a big challenge that, weather permitting, I'm aiming to complete in a similar time to a pool swim or less. Aside from the small matter of the 5km distance from the Isle of Wight to Portsmouth, you have to contend with a busy shipping lane, Ferry's, Hovercraft, the Weather and the tide.

I'll update my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/rjbulmer as I get nearer to the event and if you could sponsor me for this good cause it would be very much appreciated and gratefully received by those that need your support.
