Hogal Lovells 3 Day Cycle Challenge · 1 June 2017

Saving babies from their first breath - advancing neonatal intensive care in Vietnam to help close the gap between developing and developed world standards of newborn care. Our work addresses the critical shortage of nurses, trained health workers and basic specialist lifesaving equipment.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This is my second year of riding to support Newborns Vietnam (you can see some pictures from last year above). The ride is exceptionally tough, particularly the first day which involves a lot of steep hills over a 150km route. For the cyclists reading this, there are two category 1, two category 3, four category 4 and one category five climbs on the first day!

So why am I doing it? Newborns Vietnam does a fantastic job and saves lives.

Newborns Vietnam save lives by reducing neonatal mortality and promoting the health of newborn children and their mothers. They work with local hospitals and universities, British higher education institutions and teaching hospitals and medical training colleges to train health care
professionals, increase local capacity and improve medical  infrastructure.

They need your help to reduce neonatal mortality and
long-term disability that results from poor care.  Newborns Vietnam works in partnership with Da Nang Hospital for Women and Children (which we will visit on our final day in Vietnam) and the Vietnam National Children's Hospital in Hanoi.
