Recently someone very close to me, and many people I have known in the past, have gone through the trauma of cancer.  The news, the surgery, the treatment, the long and uncertain road to recovery and survival..... it's a horrible thing to suffer.  For me, it is always hard to know the right things to do or say or how to help, so doing something like a bike ride for a cause such as Cancer Research is a way of actually helping with a sense of purpose and achievment.
