Story

225 miles, 4 Counties, 3 days...........

Joshua was born on 5th December 2010. On 6th, Josh was transferred to the Royal Brompton Hospital diagnosed with transposition of the greater arteries (TPGA), a rare heart condition which affects 0.04% of babies born in the UK each year. With TPGA the “great” arteries are reversed in their origins from the heart, with the aorta connected to the right ventricle, and the pulmonary artery connected to the left ventricle—exactly the opposite of the normal heart’s anatomy. TPGA is a life threatening condition requiring corrective open heart surgery.

After a few anxious hours of waiting with Josh at the Brompton we were given the news that he had been misdiagnosed and could be discharged the following day after observation.

We were the lucky ones. Our brief experience at the Brompton gave us a real insight into what a difficult time it can be for families and the fantastic work that the doctors and nurses do to help young children with serious heart conditions.

Starting on the 28th April 2012 I will set off on a 225 mile bike ride, cycling 75 miles a day, for 3 days, across 4 counties to raise money to help the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Brompton continue their fantastic work helping poorly children and supporting their families.

Any contribution you may like to give, no matter how big or small, will really make a difference so please sponsor me to complete this challenge!
