She hails from Ugheli in Delta State some 300 kilometres North of Port Harcourt City. Her husband, Pascal used to work for a construction company which was forced to shut down due to kidnapping activities in the Niger Delta. When the company shut down, it sent home all but a few of its over 4000 employees.

Paschal was affected and as a result could no longer adequately provide for his family. He would pick up some odd jobs whenever he is able to find one. On several occasions his children had to go to bed on empty stomachs. Things have been going on in this manner until September 2009 when his house rent expired. The Landlord showed some understanding by allowing the family to continue to keep their apartment for a while, but after one year of no payments, the Landlord was forced to evict the family because the rent was his own source of livelihood. Matilda then went to the UNICCHYD women empowerment scheme. She was initiallygiven a soft loan of N5000 which she used to start a business in buying and selling of fresh fruits.

After 2 months, she was able to completely repay the loan and had saved an extra N5000 for herself. UNICCHYD was happy with her performance and as a result returned to her the whole 10000 as a seed gift. With this seed money, Matilda was able to register herself with the WOMEN EMPOWERMENT LOAN UNIT (WELU) and access a bigger loan. Matilda got 30000 in December 2010 With this, she has been able to expand her fresh fruit business. Her children are now well fedand she is not likely to face an eviction again in the future for not paying rent. She says “ I am happy that I am now sure I will be able to support my children in school next term and give them food. We are greatly indebted to WOMEN EMPOWERMENT LOAN UNIT of UNICCHYD / World in Need Nigeria.”

Hi

Welcome to my fundraising page. Many women around the world, either because of extreme poverty or an oppressive culture find themselves in desperate circumstances, no future and no hope.

World Christian Ministries has a branch of its work dedicated to helping more women like Matilda in various places around the world, places like Ethiopia, India, Phillipines, Thailand and Vietnam.

OK, so you may never have heard of World Christian Ministies amongst the many charities out there and there are so many good causes aren't there? But with just a little bit of help from you WCM can turn "no future, no hope" competely on its head!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
