Cycle challenge 2013 · 7 September 2013

It works to relieve poverty and sickness and advance education, in particular, but not exclusively, amongst homeless children and young people in Sierra Leone

Story

In September I am undertaking a 1,200km cycle ride across France, from the English Channel to the Mediterranean Sea, with my son Ed and son in law Iain.

The reason for taking up this challenge is to raise money for St George Foundation, a charity that was founded in 2004 to support the high numbers of children made homeless as a result of the civil war in Sierra Leone and I am involved with as a Trustee.

Today the Foundation continues to rescue, care for and educate street children. The aim is to return the children to their relatives, while continuing to support their education until they reach school/university leaving age.

For many of them university places, professional careers, stability and academic achievement have become reality.
