UPDATE 17/3/12. We did the sky dive this morning. Before and after pictures of Richard are below (looking noticably paler after the event!). Pretty terrifying it has to be said but chickenfeed compared to what Ellen went through. Thank you to everyone for your amazing support and encouragement.

Lots of love Richard and Irene x

The Cardiac Unit at Bristol Children's Hospital saved our daughter's life.

Ellen was born on 28 June 2011 with two major heart defects: TGA and VSD. Basically the arteries to her heart were the wrong way around and she also had a hole in her heart. She had an 8 hour operation when she was 8 days old and, without that, she would almost certainly not be with us by now. So we owe her life to the skill and dedication of everyone at the hospital.

We also became profoundly aware of all the other families at the hospital dealing with situations which, in many cases, were much tougher than our own. It was not uncommon to find people hundreds of miles from home for months on end.

Please help us to give something back. Irene and I are going to sky dive for the Grand Appeal on 17 March 2012. We will throw ourselves out of a plane from a height of just over 2 miles and, parachute permitting, will hopefully land a few minutes (rather than a few seconds) later!

The sky dive itself is already paid for so every pound raised will go straight to the charity.

Please give as generously as you can.
