Story
On
Thursday 19th
August 2010, Richard Machin and Matthew Neal will set off on
a
400 mile 5 day unsupported bike ride from Aberdeen to St. Andrews, via Aberlour,
Aviemore, Inverness, Fort
William, Loch Tay, Pitlochry and Perth. The route
will take in
some
of Scotland’s most beautiful country side as well as some of the steepest
climbs in
Europe. You can follow our training and progress on twitter @ richardmachin11
They
are doing this ride to raise greater awareness of the work being done to
support
people
and families affected by Motor Neurone Disease.
Motor
Neurone Disease is a fatal
neurological illness with no cure that affects both
men
and women. It can cause progressive paralysis, loss of speech and difficulty
eating
and drinking.
The
ride is in memory of John Mackie MBE, Richard’s father-in-law, who lost his 12
year
battle
with the illness last summer, and inspired everyone who was fortunate enough to
have
met him to try and make a positive difference to benefit others.
