UPDATE - Thank You

Many thanks for your generous sponsorship of my participation in the Montgomery Triathlon, which I’m pleased to say I completed on Saturday.

After a very enjoyable cycle from Newtown to Welshpool, the long (nearly 4 hours) canoeing leg nearly finished me off, but I somehow managed to keep going, and then to put one foot in front of the other for the final ten mile run to the finish.  (To my surprise I was even able to stay upright after the event to give out medals to all those who completed the course,)

It was a great event, a chance to see the whole canal from end to end, with everyone full of enthusiasm, and a fantastic turnout from all the volunteers who support the event.

The money you have donated will support Canal & River Trusts work to care for 2,000 miles of canals and river navigations.  Again many many thanks for your generosity.

STORY

This is the first event I have participated since taking over as Chief Executive of this great Charity a year ago and I'm delighted (and a bit scared) to be taking part in this unique event.

Unlike other Triathlons we're canoeing instead of swimming, which isn't my strong point as I haven't been near a canoe for a very long time! But I'm not worried as hopefully my brother-in-law will support me and I'm sure the crowds will be fantastic, and if you ever need inspiration to finish a race, then surely it will be here along one of the most beautiful stretches of canals in the country that is only wholly navigable on both land and water - so what a great way to see it all!

This event is coming up very soon, and I have only just taken my bike out for a practice run but I can't wait to take part in this special race - it will be a fantastic event and all money raised will go towards our invaluable work of eventually restoring part of the canal along this route and many other restoration and conservation projects.

If you would like to donate towards this, that would be fantastic, or if you can't and you're in the area, come to the Montgomery canal for a great day out and cheer me and everyone else along.
