Story

Hello,

I would firstly like to thank you all very much for taking the time out to visit myJustGiving page and secondly for hopefully supporting, what is an incredibly worthy cause HAVENS HOSPICE.

On Sunday 22nd April 2012, I will be running in the 32nd VIRGIN LONDON MARATHON, one of the world’s most prestigious events, fulfilling a lifelong dream of mine in the process. A marathon by definition is an event or activity that requires a prolonged effort or endurance and there is no doubt that the gruelling 26 miles and 385 yards (to be precise!) in and around the many sites and landmarks of London, will be one of the greatest yet rewarding challenges of my life.

The principal reason for running in this event is to raise awareness and crucial funds for HAVENS HOSPICE, which includes both Little Havens Children’s Hospice and Fair Havens Adult Hospice; and cares for adults, children and their families affected by life threatening and life limiting illnesses throughout Essex. Fair Havens opened its doors in June 1983 and since then has cared for over 20,000 patients and their families from Southend, Castle Point and Rochford. Today Fair Havens grown to offer a range of specialist care services including an In Patient Unit, Day Care Centre, Fair Havens Macmillan Team, Hospice at Home and Bereavement Services.

Little Havens Children’s Hospice a further development in 1998, provides specialist respite breaks, symptoms control and end-of-life care for youngsters living with life-limiting conditions and who are not expected to reach adulthood. The work of all at the Hospice is truly inspirational, supporting children on their journeys, as well as their families, to be as comfortable as possible; whilst creating special memories along the way. As a registered, independently-run charity (RCN 1022119) HAVENS HOSPICE relies heavily on the generosity and kindness of its supporters and their donations. It will cost £5.7 million in 2011/2012 to continue caring at both Fair Havens Hospice and Little Havens Children's Hospice. I hope that you agree what a wonderful and worthy cause HAVENS HOSPICE is. If so then please give generously through JustGiving. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

Any donations will be greatly appreciated and will make a real difference to lives of those involved.

Thank you for your time and support, Richard

In loving memory of Joan Sweeney
