Dig Deep (Africa) - Dig Deep Expedition · 1 February 2012 ·

At Dig Deep, we believe everyone has a fundamental right to clean water, safe toilets and good hygiene through the achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goal 6. We work in Bomet County, Kenya, home to 1 million people and one of the most underserved and least resourced areas of the country.

About me:

Hi all,

First of all thank you for taking the time and effort to visit my Just Giving page. I really appreciate the help. I will be climbing Kilimanjaro, with a team from work, at the end of May 2012. We are flying out from Heathrow on the 26 May 2012.  The climb itself will take around 3 to 4 days to get to the summit and 2 to 3 days to get back down again. Some facts about the mountain itself:

·         Kili stands at 19,340 feet (5,895 meters)

·         The mountain is located in Tanzania, east Africa

·         It is the highest mountain in Africa and fourth highest of the Seven Summits it is considered the tallest freestanding mountain in the world

·         Kilimanjaro supports 5 major eco-zones: rainforest, heath, moorland, alpine desert and glaciers.

·         Today, about 15,000 people attempt to climb Kilimanjaro each year, as a spiritual journey or as a personal challenge

Our goal is to raise £2500 each to reach a total value of £30,000 for the charity dig Deep. 50% of this goes directly to the charity; the rest is for flights, porters, airport transfers, food for the week etc. Our challenge seems like a long way off, but with such a lot of money to raise we really need your help to get off to a good start.

About the Charity:

(From the charity themselves)

Dig deep is a charity run by student and graduate volunteers which provides sustainable water and energy suppliers to communities in eastern Africa. Through digging deep and fundraising for our projects you will save and improve countless lives by providing clean water and renewable energy to thousands of people.

In all of our projects we work alongside local communities, local government and local charities. Perhaps most notable we work closely with Agnes Pareyio, first female maasai councillor and UN person of the year 2005.

Please, please, please, dig deep and do something amazing for a good course and help us raise the funds to save countless lives.

Thanks

Rich
