Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 28 September 2011 an earthquake of magnitude 6.9 hit the boder between Nepal and Sikkim in the Kanchenjunga area.

Two teachers at the Lepcha Night School, Suksing and Sanumit, particular friends of AV, suffered severe damage to their houses which has made them uninhabitable. Below Suksing's house there is also a major landslide which heavy rain could increase, taking Suksing and his family if they were there.

They are currently being given shelter by other Lepchas, but urgently need to find a place where they can rebuild land and house, and the funds to build a simple house. They have so little.

As you know, Suksing and his family have looked after volunteers at the Night School and Primary school for many years and without them and Sanumit the Night School probably could not function. Sanumit was the main teacher at the school when we first arrived, and hosted Bethan, the first volunteer in Pochok, by throwing open her house to her. They have both been extraordinary.

Tendup thinks that it will cost about £9,000, but let us see what we can do. Please pass this on to anyone you think I have missed.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the AV Foundation and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. The AV Foundation will send the money to Tendup to ensure that gets to the right place, and he and Lyangsong will ensure that it is wisely spent.
