Story

Thanks so much to everyone who has donated, and to anyone who is still tempted! On August 7th 2011 I ran a half marathon at Indian Queens in Cornwall in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care, specifically to raise money for the St Julia's Hospice Appeal.

I completed the 13.1 miles in 2 hours 21 minutes, and apart from a very sore knee, all was fine. Matilda, Susie, John, Angela, Joseph, Mike Grundy and Angus cheered me on along the way, accompanied by the Indian Queens brass band, and it was a really lovely event (apparently the first thing I said when I finished was "I'm NEVER running a full marathon!"

The staff at St Julia's in Hayle provided amazing care for my father in law Geoff Ward in the last months of his life in 2010, and equally invaluable support for Ros and the rest of the family during a very difficult time.

St Julia's is currently undergoing extension works which will increase the number of beds by 50% and create a dedicated and separate area for day patients. With ever increasing demand on the services at St Julia's, this extension will allow them to give more poeple the specialist support they so desperately need. Ros went along to visit the hospice recently and see how the works are getting on, and says the extra facilities available will make a huge difference to the care that can be offered and the number of patients who will be able to benefit.

I certainly hope that the level of care Geoff received would be available to any of my loved ones if they needed it. The hospice appeal needs £1.5m and they're about a third of the way there so still some way to go. http://www.cornish-hospices.co.uk/services6.asp?service=St+Julia's+Hospice+Appeal
