Story
I’m a 35 year old solicitor and, in mid-January 2013, I was 15 stone and my most significant athletic achievement was making the cake run to Greggs. I would get out of breath just running for the bus. I decided to do something about this and, in a moment of bravado, I declared that I would run the Bristol 10K run on 5 May 2013. I quickly entered myself in the race before I changed my mind. I bought some running shoes and some sportswear, and I resolved that I would run for charity as an added incentive and to make sure I did not drop out.
It is now mid-March. I have completed Couch to 5K and lost over a stone in weight. I have run through wind, snow, rain and temperatures of -2°C. I have fit in running between work and childcare responsibilities, running home from work twice a week and running once at weekends. Over the next 7 weeks, I will push myself further and extend my running to get up to 10K.
I am running to raise money for Roadpeace because I have seen first-hand the fantastic work that they do helping victims and the families of victims of serious and fatal road traffic collisions. Their members share their time and personal experiences to provide help and support, both emotional and practical, to people whose lives have been devastated by the consequences of road crashes. They campaign tirelessly to improve the justice system for victims and victims’ families.
Roadpeace is massively deserving of our support. Please give as generously as you are able, and I will make sure that I get around the Bristol 10K course.
