SLEEPING ROUGH SO OTHERS DONT HAVE TO
On 30th October 2010 I spent the night on the cold streets of Norwich, sleeping in the grounds of St Peter Mancroft church in the city centre to raise funds for YMCA Norfolk.
YMCA Norfolk is an inclusive Christian organisation, transforming communities across Norfolk. They deliver effective frontline services to young people at their point of need, each night accommodating up to 200 vulnerable young people across the County. The YMCA also provides a wide range of holistic programmes and support to help young people find their own pathways to independence, develop their life skills and determine their place within society.
They are seeing an increase in the numbers of young people requiring their services and are committed to doing everything they can to help young people when they need it most. This new housing will provide young people with crucial move-on accommodation. They will firstly be given a home at Norwich Central YMCA where they can be expertly assessed. Those who demonstrate that they are committed to developing themselves and want to progress will be offered the opportunity to live in one of the new flats with a view to living independently within two years.
The total cost of this development will be £4.4m. Thanks to generous contributions from the Homes and Communities Agency, Broadland and South Norfolk Council’s and other gifts there is currently an outstanding funding gap of £1m.
Your support for this fundraising appeal would be a significant investment in ensuring that hundreds of young people do not face the fear and misery of living on the streets, and it will provide stability, positive opportunities and a brighter future for generations to come.
