Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The Charity:
I’m going to raise money for Cardiac Risk In the Young (CRY).  It’s estimated that every week 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die in the UK from undiagnosed heart conditions (Sudden Adult Death Syndrome, SADS). CRY raises awareness of SADS, provides medical information, offers support to those who have suffered bereavement and promotes testing, screening and research.  For more info visit: www.c-r-y.org.uk

UPDATE!!
The results are published and I came 217th out of 550.  A decent improvement on my mid-table result last year but not quite enough to beat 3x-winner of the tour of Spain Roberto Heras, who came first...

The Race:
It’s not a long-distance effort, more of a middle distance sprint with a twist:  I’m competing on Sunday 4th October in the Brompton World Championship.  It’s a road race with 600 competitors racing around a 13km course on their Bromptons after first unfolding them (shirt, tie and jacket are compulsory race-wear in a nod to the bikes' commuter day-job).  It’s fun but it’s also a serious cycle race registered with British Cycling and attracting some majorly quick riders and international teams.  Last year I came about half way down the field – I’ll be aiming to better that on Sunday.  For more info: www.brompton.co.uk/bwc/2009/

Raising money:
I know it’s not a marathon but it’s half an hour or so of lactic acid burn and exhaustion, so any donation or loose change all adds up to make a difference for CRY.  If you would like to make a donation please do so here (don’t forget to gift-aid if you can).

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
