Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 2nd October I will be setting off to climb Kilimanjaro for a richly deserving charity - Caring Matters Now - and I really need your support.
I'm doing this because of one very special person, Jodi Unsworth, who I've known for 10 years. She worked in a variety of roles in the Community Department at Liverpool FC before leaving to concentrate on charity work. You can see Jodi's picture to the left.
Jodi was born with Congenital Melanocytic Naevus (CMN), a very rare disfiguring skin condition. During the first 15 years of her life she underwent 30 operations and missed three years of school. All of that time she, and her doctors, thought she was unique. It wasn't until she was 16 that she came across a doctor at Great Ormond Street who understood the condition.
Jodi's response on discovering there were other sufferers typifies her spirit and her positive attitude to life. She agreed to form and lead a charity (Caring Matters Now) which acts as a support group for sufferers and their families and funds research at Great Ormond Street. You can find out more at www.caringmattersnow.co.uk.
I make a point of keeping in touch with Jodi and we met for coffee last December. Knowing she spends her life helping others, I asked what her next big idea was. When she mentioned Kilimanjaro, my brain was telling me that this was very exciting but not for me. At the same time I heard my mouth telling Jodi I'd go with her. And there is no backing out with Jodi.
