Thank you for visiting my page. In December 2009 my wife (Hannah) was diagnosed with unexplained Jaundice, over the following months Hannah’s condition progressively deteriorated and in time we were told she actually had chronic liver disease. The liver is a very complex organ known as “The Engine” of the body; it is responsible for over 500 different functions. It was hoped that Hannah’s condition would right itself over time, but this wasn’t to be, after 18 months of severe fatigue and the more visible suffering due to the yellowing of the skin, Hannah was told that due to the limited functioning of her liver she had contracted Osteoporosis and a fracture was detected in her back. Due to rapid deterioration Hannah was admitted to the liver unit at St James, Leeds for a liver transplant assessment, and on the 27 July 2011 Hannah was placed on the liver transplant list, we were told Hannah would only survive 2 years with the diseased liver, thanks to a wonderful donor on the 9 August 2011 Hannah received the gift of life, a donor had been found and she went in to theatre at 9.40am that morning. After 10 days in hospital Hannah was discharged and continues to make a slow but comfortable recovery at home, every day reaching a new milestone. Hannah has shown incredible courage and strength during her illness, which still to date is unexplained, she has been a true inspiration to many people. With this in mind I have decided to run the Hadrian’s Wall ultra marathon, 69 miles from Carlisle to Gateshead, on behalf of the liver transplant support group, based at St James (www.stjamesltsg.org), my aim is to raise a good sum of money for the liver unit at St James, Leeds. All funds raised will go towards much needed equipment, some of which will be used to assist with transplant procedures, not just the liver but other forms of organ transplant. 69 miles may seem very daunting to some, however the only encouragement I will need to complete this challenge is to remeber what Hannah has been through over the last 24 months. Any donation you could make will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story.
