Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

My father, a man who had been fit and active all his life, was struck down with a severe stroke at the age of 83. He spent six months in nursing homes, unable to move, feed himself, or communicate and yet I believe his mind was working as normal, just trapped in a useless body. This struck me as an affliction worse than any dementia and one deserving all the research possible into prevention and cure. After about six months he passed away (mercifully) from pneumonia.
