Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

A few years ago, my friend's brother, then aged 22, was paralysed from the neck down when a scrum collapsed playing rugby.  The impact of seeing paralysis first-hand, plus the link between spinal injury and sport, led me to supporting Spinal Reseach - an incredible charity which is committed to finding a cure for paralysis.  Whilst to many of us this appears to be a hopeless task, the last few years have brought incredible progress and now we're at a stage where clinical trials are taking place on patients with spinal injuries to restore nerve function, feeling and movement.  Much of the work to get here has been funded by Spinal Research.

Every few years I decide to take on a new sporting challenge to raise money for Spinal Research.  Therefore in a couple of weeks' time I'm taking part in the Norfolk Superhero - a quadrathlon involving a 1 mile sea swim, 4 mile sea kayak, 40 mile bike ride and 7 mile run over the sand dunes and marshes to finish.  In the process I'm hoping to raise £5000 to help Spinal Research continue their ground-breaking work.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Many thanks for all your support

Rob

Post Script - 20/06/2010

I finished the Superhero in 4h50m yesterday afternoon. The Norfolk weather wasn't kind, blowing a hoolie in from the North Sea, 12C and frequent rainstorms. Only in the UK can you do an event on mid-summer weekend and one of the participants ends up being treated by St John's ambulance for hypothermia (really!) - having said that I wasn't far off after the kayak. 12km run on sand dunes and soft beach to finish was hell. No doubt hardest event I've ever done, but great fun and I'm thrilled to have raised such an incredible amount in sponsorship for Spinal Research so far

Best wishes

Rob
