Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. After nearly 37 years service with the Royal Navy (man and boy!) the end is finally nigh and so I thought I‘d fill in a few months of the summer by walking the length of this great country of ours. So immediately following my last working day at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose (and after 3 thwarted attempts to depart the Service), I plan on Friday the 15th July 2011 to wave goodbye to Lands End and head for John O’Groats. Initially intending to do this for personal satisfaction only, I soon came round to thinking that that would be a tad selfish and so have opted to walk on behalf of the Royal British Legion (RBL); an organisation that has and always will be there for servicemen and women regardless of circumstance.
My ultimate goal is to walk up to John O’Groats and then perhaps cycle “back down the hill” again, arriving at Lands End again in late September. However, that may stretch my physical resources to the limit, so it cannot be guaranteed… but I will certainly be giving it a go.
Given that I was intending to do this anyway - and with my wife Gillian is the only back up - the entire walk/cycle will be self-funded, and therefore have a degree of austerity attached to it. As such, all monies donated will go direct to the RBL in order that they can continue to support those in need who have served their country with such pride down the years.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate if you can, and pass this message on to others.
Many thanks, Rob Knill
SLIGHT CHANGE OF PLAN!! The above is clearly a slight change to my original plan, which was to depart on 6 May, but the walk will still go ahead - and with the Scottish "Midgey" season included for good measure! For those of you who have already donated, I therefore offer you my sincere thanks. Rob
