Great South Run 2017 · 22 October 2017 ·
Our beautiful daughter Poppy was diagnosed at birth with a hole in her heart. We always knew that she would need some form of intervention but in July 2016, the doctors found a second hole and leaking valve. There was no choice but to have open heart surgery. Poppy's holes and valve were repaired 26th April 2017 and she stayed on Ocean Ward for six days.
Ocean Ward is one of the UK's top 10 Children's Cardic ward. From the minute we had our first consultation, through the Pre-op, to the recovery, the staff on Ocean ward were amazing and reassuring. We wanted to do something to hopefully to provide support to the Ward so that they can help other parents who are going through the same experiences as we did. Running the Great South Run pushes Libby and I right out of our comfort zone and any penny you can spare for us really makes a difference.
We are a registered Charity (1145013) formed by volunteer parents of children with cardiac disease who rely on the services provided by Ocean Ward and it’s team of specialist and dedicated staff. We have strong links with the ward with a representative from Ocean Ward involved in strategic planning and decision making .
