My story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. On the 22nd April I will be running 26.2 miles for the Aspire Programme run by Romsey Mill.
http://www.romseymill.org/aspire/
Romsey Mill is a Cambridge based charity committed to overcoming disadvantage, challenging injustice and promoting social inclusion with young people, children and families. Our work is long term, relational and needs-led. We work with participants to develop their skills and to enable their progress towards training, work and positive involvement in the community.
Romsey Mill’s Aspire Programme works to support young people who have been diagnosed with high-functioning autistic spectrum conditions, including Asperger Syndrome, and are in mainstream education. Our weekly youth clubs create a social space for members to interact at a level with which they are comfortable. We offer a high ratio of support from volunteers. Young people come to relax and be themselves, and to do things that they enjoy. One group member said, “Aspire has helped me cope. It has helped me understand my autism.”
As a previous volunteer on the Aspire programme I have seen firsthand the amazing work of Romsey Mill. Because of this, I am happy to have put myself through the weeks of hard training and am ready to face the challenge of running my first (and last) marathon on the 22nd of April to raise money for this cause. I would also be very happy if you were able to support me and the good work of this charity.
I would like to thank Ruth Watt and the team at Romsey Mill for their continued support with this and Cambridge University Press for making Romsey Mill their Charity of the Year and sponsoring my running top. Another special mention must be for the members of Corpus Christi College who have pledged £100 in support of this challenge. Thank you to all of you who choose to sponsor me and/or support me in any other way!
