Story

One dark, cold November afternoon last year, my good friend Scott Medd and I decided that we needed to take on a new endurance challenge in 2013. Having both run a marathon amongst other events we decided that it was time to raise the bar...

As a result, in June of this year, Scott and I will be taking on a 69 mile Ultramarathon - coast to coast along Hadrian's Wall.
Despite having competed in events previously, this is comfortably the most strenuous and daunting challenge either of us have ever undertaken, as we will be taking on the distance in one, continuous run over the mixed terrain route that starts in Carlisle and finishes at the Gateshead Millenium Bridge.

I am raising donations for two charities; 75% of the amount I raise will be going to The Kent Air Ambulance Service. The Kent Air Ambulance was established in 1989 to relieve sick and injured people in South East England and surrounding areas by providing a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service and air ambulance service for the benefit of the community.

Responding swiftly to 999 calls, the air ambulance service can deliver its highly skilled team of Doctors and Paramedics to the scene of an accident of medical emergency within minutes.

Flying fast, direct and unhindered at up to 150mph the Kent Air Ambulance service can reach any part of Kent within 20 minutes flying time and can transport patients to the nearest major hospital or specialist unit in a fraction of the time taken by an ambulance on the ground.

The remaining 25% will be going to MacMillan Cancer Support who raise millions to support cancer sufferers and their families every year. I will be raising for Macmillan on behalf of my late Grandad, Dennis Morton, who we sadly lost last summer and was a big supporter of the charity.

All of the money that I raise will be going to the charities and I will be funding everything else myself. The training is in full swing and will only be upping each week as we get closer to the 23rd June.

Although the enormity of this challenge is slightly unnerving we are both confident we will complete it both through determination and hard work. Thanks for reading and please give generously to these great causes.
