Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On the 10th June 2011 I will begin a bike ride that will start in France and end in Milan, Italy and cover 1000 miles. For 10 days I will cycle a 100 miles a day with my Uncle; Paul Akhurst, in this amazing challenge.

The reason: I want to raise a lot of money for a charity that is close to my heart: The 'Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund'. Like many of you, I had never heard of this charity until my Uncle Johnny died in June 2008. My Uncle Johnny was 63 years old when he passed away and I will always remember him as a fantastic character who loved life and loved his family. His illness was short and shocking and he died not long after being diagnosed with 'Mesothelioma' ; lung cancer caused by exposure to asbestosis.

The Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund aims to raise awareness of this disease, fund research projects, improve diagnosis, treatments and care for mesothelioma sufferers and their families.

Now for the bits you need to know:

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

My Auntie Chris (Johnny's wife) specifically chose this charity as it is the only one that raises awareness of this type of cancer. I would be really grateful if you could dig deep and donate for this fantastic cause!

Thanks again and think of me during those 10 days and the saddle sore that I'm going to have!!!
