The Brain Tumour Charity is the world’s leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally. Committed to saving and improving lives, we’re moving further, faster to help every single person affected by a brain tumour. A cure really can’t wait

Story

On the 20th of January 2011 I along with five friends will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust (SDBTT). SDBTT is the leading charity dedicated to adult and childhood brain tumour research in the UK. Their aim is to raise awareness, support and funds for brain tumour research to help fight this devastating disease and give hope to brain tumour patients in the future.

We're doing this because we lost a very dear friend of ours (Phil Garner) last year to this cruel disease. The six of us belong to a musical theatre group (Bournville Musical Theatre Company) where Phil was our director, a truly inspirational man, a great director and good friend. Phil was diagnosed with a very agressive form of brain tumour in July 2009 and sadly died just weeks later.

We decided to take on this challenge to not only raise money for a good cause, but to do something that would stretch us all personally and be a fitting tribute to Phil.

The climb will take us up the Machame Route from the south side of Kilimanjaro, we should all reach the 5896m (19,340 ft) summit by about the 6th day (with hopefully no altitude sickness along the way).
