Cardiac Risk in the Young Verified by JustGiving
RCN 1050845 (England & Wales), SC052581 (Scotland)
Each week at least twelve young people in the UK die suddenly as a result of undiagnosed heart conditions. At Cardiac Risk In the Young we aim to save young lives & to help those affected by young sudden cardiac death (YSCD). We do this by providing support, information & screening those affected.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to check out our fundraising page...

The Intro

Myself, James, Rob and Paul are individually taking part in the Dorney Tri Challenge on the 26th May (20 Days from now!) For those that don't know it's a Olympic Distance Triathlon at Dorney Lake... Consisting of;

1.5km open water swim, 40km Bike and topped off with 10km Run.

Rob and I have talked and doing a triathlon for years and this year felt like the right time to stop talking about it and get on with it.... Roping in Paul and James was a bonus.

For all of us this will be our first triathlon... and perhaps the olympic distance wasn't a wise choice. We are hoping that the hard work and training will get us all round. The training has been gruelling, not to mention the amount of Lycra i have seen.... but hopefully it will be all worth it.

The Charity

 We have all agreed to raise money as a group, for a little known charity called CRY.

CRY was set up to raise awareness of conditions that can lead to young sudden cardiac death and sudden death syndrome.

For those that aren't aware this is a cause that is very important to me and the others.

On June 28th 2012 my great friend and true gentleman Philip James Standing passed away suddenly...and I miss him incredibly as I know many many people do. He left us far too early and amongst other things it's made me realise that life can be so short... and that I need to make sure I do those things that it's all to easy to put off for another year.

If by raising a bit of money for some hairbrained sporting adventure we can help CRY in even the smallest way, then I know it will be worth it.

So, for the blood, sweat and tears of four thirty something (or nearly) men... please donate generously.

...and if we reach the target Rob and James are happy for me to post a picture of them in their matching speedos!

Thanks,

Mike, James, Rob & Paul
