Story
Well, I've talked about it long enough; I guess this makes it official: on JUNE 26th I shall start my ride from Land's End to John O'Groats!
While I am still a bit nervous at the prospect of cycling 80-100 miles per day for twelve consecutive days (to save you doing the maths it's about 1000 miles...gulp...) I am also very excited! This is the biggest challenge I have ever taken on and I'm delighted to be doing it in aid of Alzheimer's Society.
The work that Alzheimer's Society does is so important - if you don't think it's relevant to you, take a moment to think about your parents, uncles & aunts or grandparents as they move into their latter years. We all hope to live long and healthy lives but I find it comforting to know that Alzheimer's Society is working hard on the causes, and researching cures, of dementia for the benefit of us all.
Of course, they also offer a fantastic network of support for carers, too, and we hope to visit one of their special 'Dementia Cafes' during the ride; the coffee and locally sourced cakes are meant to be very good there!
Many of you were kind enough to sponsor me last year for my first 'Century Ride' but I make no apology for asking for your support again.
My challenge this year lasts a full 12 days after which we hope to stay on in Scotland for a bit of a holiday. The challenge for people affected by dementia and Alzheimer's is daily, for months and years at a time and their finish line is rather more final than mine.
Although June may seem a long way off I need to get my sponsorship monies in SIX WEEKS before we leave; so please give as much as you feel comfortable with to support me and the wonderful 'Alzheimer's Society.'
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe and they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for my chosen charity. Please note that some of the money raised will go towards the Society's costs of running the event.
Keep up to date with my training and progress during the ride through my blog and by following me on Twitter @robbiesvoice
See our route, day by day, here. Come and cheer us on as we pass by!
THANK YOU for your brilliant support without which... ;-) xx
