Story

Hello,

Thank you very much for you recent generous support.

We arrived safely (and on schedule) in to Rome last Wednesday at around 5pm local time.  Attached is the shot from outside the Coliseum as we arrived looking slightly less worse for ware then we deserved to be!  The trip was hugely enjoyable, we were fortunate to have almost continuous sun, a favourable wind and less than 2 hours rain in 2 weeks, amazing!

The Magic numbers were:

Over £1,00 raised so far, I have applied to BP to match this amount and with the additional gift aid we expect the final sum to exceed £2500!

The Total mileage was 12,864 each

Over 99,800 calories were burnt over the 13 days of cycling

5 broken spokes required replacement

1 puncture

2 and a half tubs of anti-chaff cream

An unhealthy amount of anti inflammatory/Painkillers consumed

Thanks again for your support.  If you are planning a similar trip and would like some advise on; kit, where to stay, what to eat/drink or anything else please get in touch.  I can forward you the gps/map files of our route and the contact details for any of the hotels.

Thanks again for your support.

Ladies and Gents,

Robert Goldie, Andrew Allday, Iain Manson and Duncan Ockleston shall be cycling unsupported from London to Rome during the Easter break.  We leave from Marble Arch on Thursday 21st April and hope to cross the Alps and arrive in Rome for Wednesday 4th May 2011.  We will be completely unsupported throughout the route, travel over 1300miles each and climb a total of over 28,000ft.

The timing coincidences with the second anniversary of mum’s (Julia Goldies) passing, 25 April 2009, in memory I would like to raise some sponsorship from our trip to donate to Herriot Hospice Homecare (www.herriothh.org.uk).  The Herriot Hospice provided care for terminally ill people who would like to stay in there own homes in the Hambleton and Richmond area of North Yorkshire.  They have a fantastic staff that provides an invaluable service.

Enough with the sales pitch please contribute if you can.

Cheers

Rob, Andy, Iain & Duncan
