Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Spending most of my life enjoying food more than exercise has taken its toll on the waistline. So, for a healthier future I have decided it’s time to get into shape and to give me extra incentive to succeed I am going to do it to raise money for the British Dyslexia Association (BDA). Why the BDA? Dyslexia affects up to 10% of the population; I am one of the 10%. I was not diagnosed as such until I was 29 years old, so I know only too well the cost of my dyslexia not being identified when I was a child. I also know through hard experience the way dyslexics can suffer in a work environment where dyslexia is not well understood.

The BDA tell us that many of the dyslexic people across the UK, whether adults or children, are unable to fulfil their potential as a large percentage of the population still do not understand what dyslexia is or the difficulties which the condition presents and do not know how best to support them. Further, dyslexia is not an obvious difficulty; it is hidden and, as a result, dyslexic people have to overcome numerous barriers to make a full contribution to society.

The charity works to promote understanding and equality of opportunity for dyslexic children in school and adults in the workplace. If your thinking that this not a charity you have any interest in, then all I would say is that it is in everyone’s interest that a dyslexic child in school, or an adult in the workplace is given a fair chance to fulfil their potential and take their place as a productive member of society.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
