Story

In August 2019, I am riding in a double cycle fundraiser. The first of which is Ride London taking place on 4th August. This 100-mile course starts in Stratford and heads around London down to Surrey area and then back up finishing in central London. This 100-miler will act as 'warm-up' for event number 2...

A group of us are then cycling from central London through to Paris two weekends after the Ride London event. This part of the double cycling fund-raiser will involve a cycle through to Dover, a ferry across the pond to Calais and several days of riding through to Paris, where I will consume my body weight in fresh pastries!

For anyone who knows me, they will know for well that I am not a cyclist. I have never been a cyclist, and in fact, at the time of writing this, I do not even own a bike. So this challenge will be one of my hardest yet!

In all seriousness though, the whole reason for this is to raise money for charity. I will be riding for a charity known as AGSD (Association for Glycogen Storage Disease - UK); a charity that I am currently a trustee too. AGSD helps to support persons who have a very rare genetic metabolic disorder, in which they are left unable to break down glycogen  - which is one of the main sources of energy for our bodies. This leaves them with many complications including cardiomyopathies, respiratory distress and severe muscle weakness. The condition has a wide spectrum of severity, but is quite often fatal. And to date, no effective cure has been made.

The charity is very small but are doing wonderful things to help benefit the lives of children and adults alike, something I have seen for myself first hand. Any donation you can offer, however large or small, would really help!
