Thanks for visiting my page. I am raising money to help Fairbridge UK which is now part of the Princes Trust. The charity aims to support young people from particularly difficult backgrounds to help them see a worthwhile future for themselves.
After months of training my challenge was to climb Kilimanjaro and I successfully took part in this event over five days recently. Forget everything you've ever heard about this being a mainstream challenge nowadays and the old saying "if Chris Moyles can do it etc etc." This was quite simply the toughest endurance challenge of my life so far. The trek started in a beautiful rainforest and over the course of the next few days we endured extremely rough and slippery terrain, freezing cold, mud-soaked camps and we scaled the Barranco wall (think the height of Salisbury Crags times four and you'll have a rough idea). All this took place at altitudes upwards of 10,000 feet before we gradually acclimatised ready for the push to the summit at midnight on Wed 7th Dec (over 19,00 feet). After a slow, laborious trek with extreme shortness of breath I reached the summit at 5.30am. Then we had to go down again! As I am still trying to reach my target of £4,100 please donate all you can. Take a look at the photos, they should inspire you to dig deep. many thanks for your support. Robert
