Shakespeare Shuttle is a unique event commemorating 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare. Taking place on April 23 2016 it will see pupils and teachers from Shakespeare’s old school, King Edward VI, carry Shakespeare’s quill from the Guildhall in Stratford-upon-Avon to the Globe in London.
Organised as a relay, cyclist will first take the quill 70 miles along the Shakespeare Way and then hand over the quill (protected in a see-through baton) to a team of rowers. Navigating a number of locks the quill will move down the Thames. The final 24 miles of the shuttle the quill will be carried into the heart of London and then presented on stage at the Globe to its Artistic Director Dominic Dromgoole before the curtain is raised for a celebration performance of Hamlet.
