My story
L/CPL Robert French, Marine David Trippett, Marine Dan Lomas, Marine Scotty Everleigh, from LFSP, 3 troop are running a 100 mile speed march from Royal Wootton Bassett to the National Memorial Arboretum Stafordshire. To raise money for the Royal British Legion, we hope to raise £5000 in memory of all the Royal Marines that have been killed or injured in Afghanistan and Iraq, all of us have had someone close to us die and have seen our friends injured but we have also seen the great work that the Royal British Legion do, not only for the families of the fallen but also for the lads that come back with life changing injuries, with out their help some of these lads wouldnt be walking around able to carry on a normal life some have even been able to get back into sport!
we are currently serving in Afghanistan and are planning to complete the speed march in the first week of november
(01.11.11 - 05.11.11) after our return from tour.
We will be carrying all the kit we will need for the 3/4 days it will take to complete. We will also be carrying a poppy for each of the Royal Marines that have died out on operations here in afghanistan and out in Iraq (70 in total as of 06/11/11), and finish by laying the poppies at the Armed Forces Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.
Please give what you can, you will not receive any unwanted emails from this site and your donations will go directly to the Royal British Legion and not come through us.Your Donations will be helping the good work that is being done day in, day out, by the Royal British Legion (they dont just work on the 11th november)
We will arrive at the Ntaional Memorial Arboretum at 11.00am on saturday 5th november 2011, so if anyone wants to see us finish and join us to pay your respects then you will be more than welcome. For information on the National Memorial Aboretum visit their website on; www.thenma.org.uk.
We will be updating this site regularly with photos, videos and other key info so please try to visit the site as much as possible.
We have now completed the march. The four of us set off from wootton bassett with a warm send off and a blessing from the local vicar. Three of the four completed the 100 miles at the arboretum on time to a warm welcome and layed the 70 poppy crosses Armed Forces Memorial after a rememberance service. Marine David Trippett injured his ankle on the second day of marching.
On Friday the 4th November we were ahead of time so took the day to fund raise in the town of Tamworth. I would like to thank everyone that helped to organise this event and everyone who donated, and a special mention to:
- the people of Tamworth who helped us to raise over £350 in just three hours, which has now gone directly to the royal british legion along with 20 percent gift aid
- the Ettington Chase Hotel who gave us a room for the night for free at the half way mark and they fed us for free too, which I will say sorry on behalf of Marine Dan Lomas who had four main meals, but also a big thank you! It was a big boost at a low point of the march.
- Sarah and Wayne who stepped into the role of support staff at very late notice.
We are continuing to collect donations and hope to beat our £5000 mark, so keep donating please!
