Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
A group of colleagues from the Society for General Microbiology cycled the towpath of the Kennet and Avon Canal from Bristol to Reading on the weekend of 8 and 9 May 2010 to raise money for the Duchess of Kent House Charity. The total distance we covered was 107 miles. The Duchess of Kent House Charity runs a palliative care hospice in Reading. Our colleague Duncan McGarva, who worked for the Society from May 1982, spent his last weeks at the hospice before his death from cancer in the early hours of 19 April 2010, at the age of 55.
The staff at the hospice did their very best to make Duncan's last weeks as enjoyable as they could be, and we would like to give something back to these wonderful people to thank them for the care that they gave Duncan and that they continue to give all of their other patients.
