Story
I lost my father in May 2011 and father in law in August 2011 to cancer aged 66 & 61. My dad was diagnosed in 2008 and Steve in 2009, following which they both maintained an amazing attitude of positivity and bravery. This was helped massively by the support they and we received from Macmillan.
This support carried right on to the end for both and I wanted to take up a challenge to raise awareness and money for the charity.
I have been a keen mountain biker for several years and decided with a group of 4 friends (Paul, John, Max and Mark) that we would try and find a real challenge. Following extensive research (Google) we have decided to ride from Caernarfon to Cardiff off-road in 3 days. A distance of 331 km and with 10,140 metres of vertical ascent (1.2 Everest's) to be cycled of which 80 % will be off-road.
We normally ride for 5 hours on a typical ride so it is a big jump to the 3 days of an estimated 14 hours a day for this challenge. We will set off on Saturday 25 August and hopefully finish on the Monday.
I have no doubt the challenge is massive and likely to be painful but it is nothing compared to those who face cancer every day in the UK. Macmillan has been providing incredible support to families for over 100 years so anything you can donate helps.
All of the money you donate goes to Macmillan with all the costs of the challenge being met by the riders and our support van drivers (Matt and John).
