BUPA Great North Run 2009 · 20 September 2009 ·

World Jewish Relief is the UK Jewish community’s international humanitarian agency. We tackle Jewish poverty and reach beyond our community. We create opportunities for people to find work and become self-reliant; we bring dignity to the elderly and we respond to international disasters.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 20th September 2009, I am going to be running the BUPA half marathon (a whopping 13.1 miles!!) in aid of World Jewish Relief, the UK Jewish community's response to disasters and need affecting the international community regardless of race, religion or nationality  http://www.wjr.org.uk/who-we-are/about-us

WJR is above all an enabling organisation, helping individuals and communities around the world survive and thrive. Recent projects have included:

Congo Emergency Appeal

In late 2008, intense fighting in eastern Congo (DRC) led to more than 250,000 people being forced from their homes. WJR launched an appeal for funds to help those affected by the conflict.

School building project - Myanmar (Burma)

Following Cyclone Nargis in May 2008, WJR is working with local partners in Myanmar to rebuild communities, focusing on building a school.

Myanmar (Burma) Cyclone

Following the devastating cyclone in Myanmar on Saturday 3 May, WJR launched an emergency appeal to channel the UK Jewish community's response to the disaster

Entembeni Old People's Home

This home was established in 1956 by leaders of the city when they noticed large numbers of destitute elderly. Today, the home caters for 75 people aged over 65.

This really is a fantastic charity and 100% of the money raised will go directly to WJR so any donations you can give however small would be really really appreciated!!

Thanks so much for your support
