The Chauncy Maples Trust is renovating the ship Chauncy Maples as a mobile primary healthcare centre that will travel Lake Malawi, providing care to needy, inaccessible lakeside Malawians. To raise money, I am writing a Sponsored Story. Please help! In order to take part, please contribute an idea for the story with your donation.
THE SIXTH INSTALMENT OF THE STORY IS NOW ONLINE! To see the latest instalment, including your contribution, visit www.roelane.co.uk/sponsoredstory
To submit your idea, either write it in the message that accompanies your donation, or email it to roelanewriting@live.com
Ideas could include:
- a word or phrase
- a character
- a setting
- a genre
- a title or chapter title
- a quote or line of dialogue
- anything else
Thank you for your help! I will update this page regularly with the latest ideas.

Ideas contributed so far:
- How about including a wacky, wild-haired, well-meaning wise woman who is very accident prone!... and make it a romance!
- an ex police man driving instructer who is a stalker etc
- Why don't we write the story for you with each donor adding the next sentence. "It was 1899 and my first day at work."
- maybe it would be fitting to set story on a lake boat. Some kind of mystery, a missing person or object.
- the name Horatio
- I suggest a drunk hippo pirate. I agree that it could take a nautical theme. Message in a bottle?
- "Look! You can see Funwe Hill ..."
- a mathematical touch, perhaps the word trigonometry or pi
- a bird and a horse
- can you give a walk-on part to a jolly accountant?!
- A clever, hard-working 14 year old school boy named Nelson, whose potential is yet to be discovered...
- a hidden secret in the bottom of the lake, and its repurcussions...
- I suggest that the artist who painted the picture for the Malawi stamp is involved in the mystery..they were there....
- I wonder if there are pirates on Lake Malawi and if they could somehow come into the story...
- In keeping with the boat's Scottish heritage perhaps you could include bagpipes in your story?
- bottle of ginger beer and a baobab tree
- a lapse pad, madagascar (or some crazy person miming the film plot) and a rabbit with a hard life are a must...
- Russell and Bromley shoes, pizza delivery, a visit to a sci-fi convention.
- 'Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in.'
- three evil accountants.
- some kind of baked product
- sandblaster, fish eagle and crocodile
