Roger and Alice's LeJog 2010 · 24 April 2010

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the leading charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

So, why are we going to  cycle from Lands End to John O Groats? Well, my Mum died last November. About 18 months before she suffered a massive stroke. She almost completely lost her speech, suffered major paralysis to her right side and was unable to control her bladder and bowels. It's hard to watch someone who was a non stop chatterbox and fiercely independent even at 80 suddenly become dependent. But she was a stubborn old girl who fought everything that was thrown at her despite the frustration. I was with her at the end so this is a chance to celebrate Nora's life and maybe make the tiniest bit of difference to someone else. The Stroke association do good work. They deserve support.

Alice's Mum was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She has been undergoing chemothrapy and radiotherapy. We hope she will make full recovery. That's her charity.

We'll no doubt have some fun/scary bits/have arguments/get lost and be completely knackered doing this (at least I will be). It will be just the two of us ---two bikes, panniers for the stuff, maps and hopefully a B&B at the end of each day.

We are hoping to start on the 24th April aim to do the 900 plus miles in about 10 or 11 days and average about 80 or 90 miles a day. (it's hurting just thinking about it!)You might even want to follow us on Twitter--if I remember the phone charger.

We don't have a target for the fundraising. Anything we raise will be a pleasant surprise.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So, if you'd like to donate that would be appreciated. If you don't that's ok but thanks for looking.

Cheers

Roger
