The story

As with so many things in life, it started in the pub.  After a couple of glasses of wine Roland thought it would be a brilliant idea to run the marathon.  Misty-eyed, he recalled his schoolboy days of cross-country running, when he used to take a shortcut to hide in the bushes and smoke cigarettes near the finish line until the others caught up. Melissa merely rolled her eyes and assumed he would forget about it.  He didn’t.

After he announced that Melissa would be joining him on all of his training runs she figured that she may as well run the marathon too if she was going to have to train for one.

Why on earth are we doing this?
So we will both be running 26.2 miles on April 25in aid of a brilliant charity, Havens Hospices.  Havens Hospices provides respite breaks, symptom control and end-of-life care for adults and children living with serious illnesses or conditions. They aim to make their journey - and that of the family - as comfortable as possible, creating special memories along the way.

The love and care provided by the Care Team in the homely surroundings at Fair Havens Hospice and Little Havens Children's Hospice is free of charge for the users. This could not continue without kind donations as it costs £5.1 million each year to keep the hospices open.

How can you support us?
Any donation you can give us will make a difference no matter how large or small.  Also, all support around the course is most welcome.  We are planning on being in the ‘just get round’ category rather than being out the front.

The day of the marathon, 25 April, is also Roland’s birthday so we will of course be celebrating with a glass of wine afterwards at a local hostelry if you would like to join us.
