Story
The match started on Sunday the 6th of April and the two teams ignored all advice and went out all guns blazing, which we later regretted but it did mean that those who came to watch did see the calibre of futsal that was capable. The early enthusiasm came back to haunt the two teams as the legs became weary in the early hours but despite the horrendous shifts, I did a midnight till 4am stint, both teams pulled through these late night shifts leaving everyone with sore legs and wry smiles.
There was two reasons why we managed to break the world record firstly was the camaraderie which kept everyone upbeat and smiling and the other reason was that it was always a close contest between the two teams as with 6 hours to play the scores were level so the competitive nature of everyone allowed for a high standard to be played throughout.
I had the privilege to captain the Brookes futsal club to victory. The final score was 804 – 776 which meant that I got to collect the trophy, this was extra special as the man who presented the trophy remembered my father from 30 years ago.
