Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the first of November 2009 a Locomobile steam car owned and restored by a member of the Southport Branch of the RSPCA is attempting the London to Brighton veteran car run. 2001 marked both the 100th birthday of the car and the completion of its restoration. David Grant (well known vet from the TV series Animal hospital) will be a passenger for part of the journey. 2009 sees a proven car with David Grant as a passenger and an undiminished desire to see the car complete the run and raise funds for the Southport and Birkdale RSPCA. If you would like to sponsor the car for the run either by the mile or for completing the run please do so from here. Please remember this is a difficult challenge for a vehicle that is 108 years old and is to cover 56 miles on the open road mixing with modern traffic. If you are wondering how this relates to the RSPCA you need only remember that the RSPCA was founded to relieve and prevent suffering to animals in transportation and industry. Steam vehicles took over the arduous and often dangerous jobs that were formally done by animals in the second half of the nineteenth century. If you wish to know more of the car it has had its own website for many years and that can be found here: -http://www.locomobile.plus.com/ a short video of the car during a trial steaming in 2001 can be found here: http://www.locomobile.plus.com/video.html Please make your donation now!
