For 7 months I have been preparing my body and mind to run 100 miles in under 24 hours. In a matter of days on August 13th at 6am I will begin the journey on the North Downs Way National Trail along with some fellow competitors.
Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice provides care and support to families who have a child who has a life limiting condition and is not expected to live into adulthood. I have been fortunate enough to visit Bluebell Wood and help out on a sibling group meet. Bluebell do this to provide fun activities for the siblings of the poorly child and illustrates the family support approach Bluebell takes.
In preperation for the 100 miler I have run well over a thousand miles and strength trained 3 times a week on top of this. In march I solo hiked the 75 mile Cumbria Way finding shelter in a valley during darkness to be off again at first light. In May I ran 56 miles in the Malvern Hills, followed by the Sheffield Half Marathon the next morning! With no statutory government funding raising vital funds for the hospice has always offered me a powerful incentive for such challenging tasks. In fact, the bigger the total gets the stronger I feel! Thank you for all your support, I'm sure it will carry me over the line!
