Walking the West Highland Way to raise money for Global Footsteps!
From 28 May to 1 June 2011, I will be walking the West Highland Way from Milngavie (just north of Glasgow) to the Bridge of Orchy. I aim to complete this 60 mile section in five days. My aim is to raise at least £750. Please sponsor me!
Volunteering in Kisumu in Kenya
I have volunteered to work as an unpaid English Teacher at a Widows and Orphans' Health and Education Centre, in a rural part of Kisumu, Kenya, from 21 July to 24 August 2011. The Centre has requested this aid, which is being paid for by the Cheltenham-based charity, 'The Rendezvous Society'. I am trying to help raise funds towards the charity's work and my main fundraising event is a sponsored walk of a 60 mile section of the West Highland Way.
Why Kisumu in Kenya?
I work as a volunteer in Cheltenham's Fairtrade Shop, 'Footsteps', one morning a week, on my day off from teaching. The shop is the base for the charity, 'The Rendezvous Society', which assists a number of educational or humanitarian projects through its 'Global Footsteps' programme. The charity was seeking two English teachers to work for a self-help project they are assisting in rural Kisumu, and I volunteered.
