My father is terminally ill with cancer and St Margaret's Hospice has made it possible for us to care for him at home; something of enormous value to us all, that would not have been possible without their resourcefulness and kindness.
Moved to try and do something to show our thanks and enable more families to receive this invaluable assistance, my daughters and I have decided to support this very special charity by raising vital funds to enable them to continue to carry out the work that we have found so valuable. We are looking for your support, sure that you appreciate this opportunity to help our local community.
In 2010 St Margaret's Hospice will celebrate 30 years of caring since its foundation in 1980. In response, we want to raise much needed funds to enable the hospice to continue its vital work of caring for patients and families in the local community.
The climax of our fund-raising is to be an 80 kilometre sponsored walk of the Great Wall of China, organised by St Margaret's Hospice, a unique and tough challenge and an unforgettable way for me to mark my Father's life and for the girls to mark the life of their grandfather. The role of on-the-spot reporter will be filled by my eldest daughter Harriet, a student of journalism at Bournemouth University, so we will be able to help bring the event alive with photographs and articles on our return. My second daughter, Emily, plans to use this trip to gain her Duke of Edinburgh award.
My daughters and I have put together a Diary of fund-raising events as follows;
Diary of planned fund-raising events;
December 2009- Christmas sale of crafts (details to be added)
,June 6th 2010- 10am-12pm Exmoor Fair, local crafts
July 3rd 2010- Summer Ball at Halsway Manor. 7.30pm, coaches at midnight. Tickets £30 each.
October 16th-24th 2010- The Great Wall of China Walk.
Also in process of being planned;
A quiz night and an auction on 30 Special Lots for 30 Special Years.
In addition to publicising our fund-raising events, we are looking for your support with the Great Wall Walk as each walker needs to raise £3000 in sponsorship.
St Margaret's Somerset Hospice rely heavily on donations for much of their work and costs an unbelievable £7 million a year to run.
We believe that we can make our targets, with your help, as this is a charity that we whole-heartedly believe in and that there are people in our local community that will benefit from the service that they provide time and time again.
Without the Hospice we may not have been able to respect Dad's wish to be home at this time, and so for that we will always be thankful.
So again we are asking for your support to help us to take on this challenge, whether it be donating through this site, helping us to organise and publicise events, donating belongings for auction, any or all of the above would be greatly appreciated.
