Story
Dear friends and family,
I am running the Barcelona marathon on March 16th 2014. A marathon is 26.2 miles / 42 kms, when I ran half marathons many moons ago in Bristol I always said I would never do a full marathon but the years in between must have damaged my brain because here I am and this is happening. Why? Hmmn, well a friend of mine, Laura Smith, casually mentioned over supper back in October 2013 that she had entered the marathon and wanted to raise money for the inspiring Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.
Laura's father, Ted Smith survived this aggressive cancer, he was one of the lucky ones, in the 3% of the lucky survivors. These figures are shocking and not widely known. After much research Laura found this charity, the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund and we know that all donations will be used wisely and will save lives in the future.
Whilst I have always been sporty anyone that knows me well knows that I am not a fan of running. The 'zone' that runners often talk about remains elusive to me but I am determined if nothing else and I hope that my innate stubbornness will get me across the finish line.
I could not be prouder of Laura Smith for starting this journey and any donation is so welcome for this remarkable charity. Please remember to tick the 'gift aid' box if eligible.
When my legs and body are defying me I will think about why we started this in the 1st place and I will beat the marathon in the hope that in the future someone else beats Pancreatic Cancer.
Thanks for all support received, we will do you all proud, I promise. xxx
